Green Retrofit Projects Completed

American Preservation Builders has completed work on three green building projects in the Cleveland area. Lourexis Apartments (70 units, Cleveland, Ohio), Beachpark Tower (151 units, Avon Lake, Ohio) and Abington Arms (152 units, Cleveland, Ohio) all received funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Green Retrofit Program for Multifamily Housing (GRP). APB took the lead in applying and closing the GRP funding for both Beachpark and Abington on behalf of the Owners, and was responsible for all aspects of the project development and construction.

The Green Retrofit Program was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which allocated $250 million to fund approximately 300 projects across the country. These highly competitive funds were used to fund energy efficient and environmentally-friendly improvements to Section 8 assisted properties. Improvements to the properties included new kitchens and baths, floor coverings, light fixtures, windows, HVAC systems, appliances and other green retrofits to the properties. All work was completed in an environmentally friendly manner, including recycling all construction debris and donating usable, re-serviced appliances to needy families. Now that these projects are complete, these properties will realize energy savings and increased indoor air quality as a result of the improvements while preserving the affordability and physical life of the properties. Each property will continue to be operated and maintained using green and energy efficient principles and methods.
